Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop out of the course PSYC 342, The Psychology of Social Influence. This is not a mandatory course for my program.
I have been struggling with significant mental health issues this semester, including anxiety and depression, which resulted in my not applying myself to this course in the way that I would have liked, and not giving it the level attention that it requires.
We just recieved the marks from our midterm exams (after the drop-deadline), and I failed the midterm worth almost half of our final grade. I took the time to talk with the course TA about where I went wrong, and at this point, I believe staying in this course would be detrimental to my GPA. I do not believe that I will be able to achieve a satisfactory mark in this course with my on-going mental health issues at this time. We were given our marks after the drop deadline, and this has been our only evaluation in the course so far.
I understand that the dropped course will appear on my transcript, and am willing to accept this consequence. I hope that my appeal will be considered, my academic standing in this course is causing me a great deal of stress that is beginning to impact my mental and physical health.
