Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies)
I am appealing to drop GNDS345 (Winter, 2016) due to unforeseen personal issues. I am appealing to drop this course because I do not believe I can fulfill the expected criteria of the course. I made the decision to drop this course because I believe that I made a mistake in taking a full course load and I have realized that I am suffering across the board in my courses because of it. Although I do not wish to go into detail about my personal issues, I will disclose that I do suffer from clinical depression (for which I take prescription antidepressants) and have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, two personal issues which have hampered my success in completing a full course load. I will be looking into retaking this course next year as it is a mandatory for my degree; but as it is a mandatory course, I believe that the content is extremely important and I would like to be able to put my full effort and energy into its completion, something I do not think I am capable of doing at this time. I have spoken with my professor (Professor Nancy Butler) and she has assured me that she is understanding of my current situation and that she will support my appeal to drop the course in any way that she can. After contacting the Arts and Science Registration Office about how to submit an appeal, I was told that I would most likely not need a letter from a professional to attach to my appeal because I have the support of my professor. Please feel free to contact me with any further steps I may need to take in order to successfully drop this course.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Rebecca Connolly
