Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this letter of appeal in hopes to drop PHYS P20 (Winter, 2016).
I have spoken to an Academic Advisor at the Arts and Science Undergraduate Office, whom referred me to speak with Counselling Services at Student Wellness Services due to suspected emotional problems. While at Counselling, I discussed family problems and how it has caused me to feel extremely depressed. I have been struggling with a lack of motivation, feelings of worthlessness and guilt, low self-esteem, problems sleeping and eating as well as suicidal ideation. This has affected my academic performance as I find it difficult to stay motivated and concentrate on schoolwork, making a high course load difficult to manage. Specifically, I wish to drop PHYS P20 as this was an online course in which I found it difficult to communicate with the instructor and it does not count towards my Psychology degree credit. I hope to continue speaking with my counsellor and receiving other professional services for my problems, but in the meantime, I hope to be able to drop this course to lessen the emotional burden.
As mentioned, I will continue to speak with the counsellor at Queen¿¿s about my specific circumstance. I anticipate that I may need to take a lighter course load in the future to continue my studies.
Thank you,
Stephanie
