Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Queen's Arts and Science,

I would like to make an appeal for an Aegrotat for my class from the 2015 fall term (Hist 210). I would also like to appeal for a late drop without academic penalty from my class from the winter 2016 term (Musc 102). This past school year I have been struggling greatly with my mental health, and it has impacted my academics very much. I have been unable to do as well as I had hoped in my academics as a result of my mental state. This is because I have been trying to improve my mental health which has taken a large portion of my time. I have been working a lot with counselling at the student health and wellness centre in order to deal with this issue, I have also seen a doctor there. Last semester during final exams was a very rough time and for reasons out of my control as a result of my mental health situation. I was unable to write my final exam for Hist 210 on top of my other exams. I did get the exam pushed but I was still not in a good enough position after the break to complete the exam. This is why I am appealing for an Aegrotat for the course, my Prof has already said he would be willing to accept this as he has been in touch with my counsellor on my situation.

I would like to appeal for a late drop for my winter term course Music 102 without academic penalty. At the beginning of the term I originally thought I would be able to handle my original course load because my situation was improving. Unfortunately I have been unable to focus on my music course with everything going on with my mental health, and as a result it has affected my results in the course very much. Dropping this course allows my focus and concentration to be greater for my other courses and allows me to work with counselling more as well. My other courses have been affected but they have not been as greatly impacted as these courses because I have been putting more focus on them since they are required for my major. I have been doing my best to balance this focus, but because of my mental health issues I have been unable to fully do this properly. This is what counselling services have also been helping my to work on and deal with. I plan to also take a smaller course load in the future until I am completely sure I can handle it again. These are the steps on how I plan to insure this situation doesn't happen again.

Sincerely,
Trey Pryce
