Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Jennifer Torres, I am appealing to the associate dean of studies the requirement to withdraw from academic studies for one year, as well to drop the course BIO 110, a course I took in the 2014 winter term.
The extenuating circumstances that are reasons for my poor academic performance this year are family medical problems, as well as ongoing cases of anxiety. This year I was susceptible to many throat infections due to my enlarged tonsils, that while inflamed caused difficulty breathing, with fear of my windpipe closing, this counted for many sleepless nights, ongoing during exam periods during this year. My mother in December was discovered to have benign cysts in her Fallopian tubes which causes her continuous physical pain, which leads to my anxiety problems. My family lives in Toronto and it is difficult to cope with the distance, especially knowing that due to financial reasons I cannot care for my mother. My love for Queens¿¿ remains that same after two years but I still find it difficult to be away from my family so long that I will often be stressed and having feelings of depression.
Steps that I will take towards my academic success are already in place. I will admit that I am very stubborn and do not like asking for help but I am willing to change. I confided in my family doctor and have openly talked about my problems. I am expected to see the specialist for my throat in early July, as well I am currently making efforts to seek counselling service this summer in order to better cope with my anxiety problems. If granted the request to continue my studies I will follow up counselling services in Kingston as well, either through private practice or student health services. As well I have made plans with my grandmother this year in order for her to provide me with financial assistance in order to make commuting between Kingston and Toronto easier.
Please note that due to my family doctor being on vacation the supporting documents will arrive no later than this week.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
With Regards,
Jennifer Torres

I plan on seeing counsellors regularly, as well as making changes to my lifestyle in order to achieve academic success. Preferably following regimens that I adapted in high school and left behind in university, such as community involvement and outreach, as well as physical activity in order to help with moments of depression. I am also actively working this summer in order to save up money for these services.
As well by the end of the summer I will most likely to be scheduled in for surgery to get my tonsils removed, which will help improve my sleeping cycle
