Petition Letter
Petition Letter: About a month and a half ago, my housemates and I found out that one of my housemates, Parker Sawadsky had been stealing mine, and my other female housemate's dirty thongs and used tampon applicators. And in the same bag that all the other items were discovered, little spy cameras were found. We were evidently very shocked and scared what this may entail so we contacted some resources on campus. The general consensus reached from talking to these resources was that it was prudent to contact the police. We met up with a road officer who told us that our housemate was going to be arrested that night on charges of theft and they would issue a search warrant for our house the next day and take all electronic devices and evidence. A few days later, I got a call from the detective in charge of the case asking me to identify some people. Parker has been part of my friend group from grade ten or eleven, and all the girls that he was naming were my close friends from high school. On Parker's desktop, there were multiple videos of seven different girls and one guy changing and peeing from his residence in Toronto. He had hidden a camera in his washroom vent to film people when he invited them over for pool parties. My ex-housemate is now being charged with counts of theft and voyeurism. His first court date was on March 31st, 2016.
This whole incident really took precedence in my life for the past five or six weeks and it was really hard to focus on anything else. It seemed like some new problem associated with this case would pop up every time I was getting ready to move on. For example, although he has bail conditions to not be within 100 metres of me or my housemates; our homes, school, or work, we found out that this was modified without our knowledge and that he has been present at school since almost immediately after his arrest. Frustration from not being informed and the uncomfortableness and fear that I may see him again was enough to strike another wave of anxiety and emotion I could not control. Every day I see something that reminds me of him or this situation, and I feel not only the guilt associated with getting him arrested, but the sadness at losing a friends, and the anger for how he hurt me and the people that are important in my life. This is constantly controlling my thoughts and it's been very hard to move past this situation and get on with my daily life, no matter how hard I try. Because of this, I am behind in my classes and lack time to catch up in all of them.
