Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing for a request of an aegrotat standing in Pols 110 and Chin 100.
I am requesting this appeal as a result of medical circumstances; last week I was told that I have thyroid Cancer. This extenuating circumstance is beyond my control and has become a psychological challenge because I am nervous and anxious in regards to my medical condition. My academic performance will suffer if I must write these exams since I will not be focused on studying and will not perform to the best of my abilities. I am very stressed about what is going on and scared for my surgery that is happening April 19th. Additionally, since I had Cancer as a child this recurrence is making me deeply distraught.
This all started when I noticed a lump in my throat back in January and visited the student clinic on campus to find out what was wrong. At the time I did not think of it as anything to be too concerned about however it resulted in a lot of waiting and several appointment to get an ultrasound, a CT scan and a biopsy. Frequently these appointments interfered with my classes and caused a lot of mental stress. It was not until last week after getting the results from the biopsy that I was told that it is Cancerous.
If this appeal is granted, I am hoping that I can focus my mind on the three exams that I will have remaining. Not having to worry about my politics or Chinese exam is a huge weight off my shoulders. My recovery will continue throughout the summer after my surgery. My doctor does think that as long as nothing wrong happens during the surgery and that they do not find any more Cancerous areas that I will be able to resume school in the fall of 2016 as a healthy student. Next year my health will no longer be in the way of my academic success therefore I will be able to tackle a full course load.
Sincerely,
Anna Ploeg
