Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop microbiology; I have been meaning to drop it since early march and as a result have not been going to class. I am dropping it because with my concussion that I am recovering from this class has too much memorization. I sustained the concussion on January 3rd of 2015. The amount of memorization this course has required has taken a tole on my head which does not help my other courses. A concussion clearly affects my academic performance and it is an extenuating circumstance out of my control. The reason i tried to take this course is because I tried to put too much pressure on myself. This is my third year at queens but academic wise i am only a second year because of mental health issues. I have accepted I will be doing at least 5 years but it took me time to accept that I will probably need to do 6 years. At first I was to scared to do 6 years but i have come to the realization I will need take a lower course load for a while do the the cognitive affects i am still dealing with and probably will deal with for a long time. This relates a lot to my mental health because now that I have accepted I will need to do 6 years so I will not try to put to much pressure on myself and trying to do 5 years and accepting i need to do 6 years results in not making my mental health issues worse again. I am still being monitored by my family doctor, a neurosurgeon, a chiropractor that specializes in concussion managements. As well as massage therapy. Other stuff I have done since my injury for my concussion is acupuncture, and vision therapy. I am also seeing a psychologist for my depression and anxiety as well as I'm on two different medication which is monitored by my family doctor. All of these have helped and are helping my concussion but since the concussion is in the brain it takes time and hopefully with time my cognitive symptoms will fade. But I have accepted to do what need to do not to be able to succeed in school.
