Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

My name is Alejandra Kudo and I am appealing to drop CISC 121(Winter, 2016) and Math 112(Winter, 2016).

Unfortunately, this is my second time having to appeal to drop courses, at a later date from the deadlines. I was diagnosed with clinical depression in June, after showing severe symptoms throughout my first year at Queen¿¿s. Throughout my second year here at Queen¿¿s, my focus has been to achieve as much self-care acts as possible, continuing with my on going treatment with a private psychologist, as well as with my medication, and of course my academics. Over Easter Weekend, I had a crisis and medical emergency, which ultimately led to me being hospitalized for a couple of days. These extenuating circumstances interfered and set me back from coming back to school for two weeks, per doctors¿¿ instructions.

I have made a plan to come back to school, as I do not plan on giving up on my education here at Queen¿¿s. I have decided to write my CISC 102 exam, German 101 exam, and submit my GND 215 paper. However, because of this set back and the vulnerable state I have been in the past 2 weeks, I would prefer to drop CISC 121 and Math 112, and take CISC 121 during the summer and take Math 112 in the fall. I am still very much motivated and interested in continuing my studies at Queen¿¿s and my plan to switch programs to the School of Computing. During the plan selection period in May, I have decided I will be selecting the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with a Major in Gender Studies, in hopes to transfer into the school of computing at the end of the summer, when I have completed CISC 121 over the course of the summer. This of course, will be my first choice of major, but because of my ongoing Mental Health struggles, I have decided that even if I do not decide to switch into the school of computing, I will be staying in the Gender Studies program, because of my interest and passion for Gender Equality, and possibly working in Human Resources, after I graduate from time here at Queen¿¿s.

I will be seeing a Psychiatrist for follow up appointments and seeing a private psychologist back at home, in order to continue my recovery. I have follow up appointments with my family doctor as well as another counsellor I plan on seeing, in which they will be overseeing the prescription of my new medication and dosage. My medication has changed and I have added more professional help in order to continue to focus on my emotional well-being and Mental Health, in hopes of making a full recovery, and being able to enjoy my time here at Queen¿¿s. I am very sorry for the inconvenience of having to appeal a second time. I wish the circumstances I¿¿m in were better than last. However, I have been encouraged, motivated, and inspired by some of the Professors I have talked to about my current situation, and they have given me additional reassurance that it get¿¿s better and I have a brighter future ahead.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Alejandra
