Petition Letter: Dear Sir/Madame,
I am Sheng Wang. I am appealing to drop FILM 260 (Summer, 2015).
Last summer, I took FILM 260 online in Shanghai, China. During those two months, my learning process was extremely hard. Though I used VPN, I could not connect to the webs like Moodle. Actually, I asked IT service about this issue, but the reply was quite disappointing. Honestly, I spent more than 10 hours everyday on the web because I had no idea when I can connect to Moodle or other information websites. When it was time to do my project, I needed to go to various Internet bars and foreign companies in order to use infographic or Haiku Deck online... So I usually need more than 3 days to finish my projects... In addition, due to the time differences, my exams were taken in the late midnight or early morning. Moreover, I could only use the internet at home because the internet bars and foreign companies did not open at those times. One of my classmates, which is also a Chinese dropped after the midterm since she could not bear the internet issue... However, I persisted because I was passionate about this course.
The processes of taking my final exams were tough... The connection was so slow, and the video call from the Proctor made the internet worse. Therefore, the website always got stuck. (I screenshot all the relevant emails.)
As a matter of fact, Film and Media is one of my majors, and I care a lot about my grades. I really want to graduate with a high GPA. I got a B+ in Film 110. Though I do not know my Film 250 and Film 340 final grades now, all my assignments and projects grades are all B, B+, and A-. I do not FILM 260 to negatively affect my GPA.
I choose to write the appeal letter now is because I had no idea what I could do last summer. I paid my full tuition fee and I did not want to waste it. However, the final grade has influenced my overall GPA, and I need to show my transcript to my employers this summer since I found a part-time job. Therefore, I decided to drop FILM 260.
Thanks for reading my letter.
Regards,
Sheng Wang
