Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing an appeal for Aegrotat Standing as I was pulled away from my examination period due to my grandfather being in critical condition. The morning of April 6, 2016, my grandfather was found unconscious following a brain bleed which had resulted in a stroke. He was left paralyzed on his left side entirely, and is currently day-to-day in Sault Area Hospital. My parents had held off telling me of this news on April 6th keeping in mind that I had my PSYC 100 exam the morning of April 7th. Following my exam, I received a phone call from my father the afternoon of the 7th informing me of the situation. I was unaware of my grandfather¿¿s condition prior to my PSYC 100 exam, therefore the extenuating circumstances only affected my following four exams: HIST 121, MATH 121, MATH 111, and HIST 122. The doctor prompted my parents to call me as he did not believe my grandfather would make it through the night of April 7th.
After receiving this news, my father travelled to Kingston to pick me up and we went up north to Sault Ste. Marie immediately. Due to the ailing condition of my grandfather, I met with the school chaplain Kate Johnson and she granted me permission to leave the examination period.I was then referred to Michelle Gallant who provided me with possible options and necessary steps I was required to take. After much thought, and discussion with both my professors and parents, I have come to the decision to apply for Aegrotat Standing in my courses of HIST 121, MATH 121, MATH 111, and HIST 122.
Please take into consideration the effect these circumstances have caused on both my family and myself, being detrimental to my abilities to focus in a time necessary for studying.

Thank you for your time,
Rhys Dumond
