Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

Recently I was made aware that my GPA is being negatively affected by my FILM 240 grade and I am writing to request CR status in that course. Following the ¿¿crash¿ of the FILM 240 final exam all students were offered credit standing by e-mail, but only for a limited time. I didn¿¿t take advantage of the CR status that was offered following the final exam and it wasn¿¿t till after visiting an academic advisor that I was made aware of the negative implications that a grade of C- or lower would have on my GPA. I learned about how the GPA system works and the importance of certain unit requirements. Although I had visited many academic advisors throughout the year, it wasn¿¿t until after the deadline had passed that an academic advisor asked why I hadn¿¿t taken advantage of the CR status that was offered. At the time of the offer I didn¿¿t fully understand the negative affects that grades lower than C- can have on my GPA.

Last year I experienced a lot of anxiety and have continued to deal with anxiety throughout my second year. Although I was aware of the CR status offer, I thought that a C- was a grade worth keeping especially since the final exam for FILM 240 didn¿¿t contribute to our grade. When making the decision to not take advantage of the CR status offer, I really thought I was making the right decision for my GPA and myself. After visiting another academic advisor, I realized I was wrong and learned as much as I could about the GPA system in order to ensure that I do not make the same mistake again and that I am better prepared to make these type of decisions in the future.

After having gone through a difficult year, I have learned a lot about the GPA system and am confident that in the future I will be better able to make decisions relating to my GPA and course units. This year I¿¿ve taken a lighter course load, which has made it easier to balance my health and my academics, and I think that next year will be a very productive year for me academically. Thank you for considering my appeal. I sincerely appreciate it.

Yours truly,

Peter Walker
