Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

I am writing this appeal, requesting for a credit standing in PHYS 117, CHEM 112 and BIOL 103, as advised by an academic advisor in the Arts and Science faculty back in January, due to my circumstances in first year.

I was diagnosed with ADD by my family doctor back in 2012. Since then, I have been taking medications prescribed by my MD, however I did not apply for accommodations at my high school since my parents thought it would affect my chances of being accepted into university. For the last two years of high school and first year of university, I struggled with completing activities that had time limits, including tests and examinations. Without ever having completing a test or exam since grade 9, I was surprised that I was even accepted to Queen¿¿s. Up until the 3rd week of semester two, the school was not notified that I had such conditions. Following various meetings with Student Accessibility Services and my family doctor, I finally had the documentation to approve my needed accommodations. The counsellor told me to forward the documentation to my professors. The only class in which this was effective was German, given the small class size, my professor immediately made certain accommodations for me. However, for biology, the examinations and activities (with the exception of the final exam) were all online, therefore these timed activities did not allow me to have extra time.

As for the other two classes, Physics and Chemistry, these were both two-semester courses, which I believe that the Fall semester portion is not an accurate representation of my academic potential. In addition, I was not given extra time on the physics midterm for semester two since I was only given the documentation (from SAS and my family doctor) after the midterm.
