Dear Associate Dean of Studies,

I am writing to you for this academic appeal concerning my failing grade in Psychology 101. I did not drop this course at the deadline because, I thought that I would be able to improve my grade. Psychology 101 was one of the courses I focused on the most in the second semester because I had not done well in the mid year exam. I wanted to improve my grade by working harder and specifically focus on this course, which would bring my grade up at the end of the semester. I would like to drop this course to help improve my GPA so I can go into the major that I am passionate about.
I had a very difficult time in Psychology 101 this past school year of 2015-2016 because of the exams. I had done well on the assignments that I was given, but the exam grades weighed my overall grade down. The exam percentage compared to the assignment percentage highly affected my overall grade because the exams are worth a significant amount more than the assignments. Even though my assignment grades were good and always completed, the exams brought my final grade down significantly. I am writing this appeal because my GPA is being taken down almost a full number because of Psychology 101. I worked very hard this year to pass Psychology 101, often putting more time and effort into this one class than some of my other classes, which I was still able to complete with great grades. I felt as if my final exam was graded unfairly because I did not get partial credit for many of the short answer essays. After the exam I checked the book to see if my answers were correct or if it was close to being correct and most of my answers were correct or partially correct and I still received no credit. I worked more in psychology than any other class to try to bring my grade up but with the exam being so significantly weighted in the course total, it brought my grade further down.
While continuing my education at Queens University, I plan on going into Global Development studies and in order to do so I have to drop Psychology to bring my GPA up. I took Psychology because I was very interested in Human Behavior but I did not do as well as I thought I would. I took Global Development 100 during the 2015-2016 school year and I was very passionate in Global Development Studies. I am very excited to start the 2016-2017 school year continue to have success at Queens University. Psychology is not a pre requisite course in Global Development so it will not affect my course requirements and I will not have to take it in the future.
