Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing this appeal letter because my grandmother, Joyce Deitcher, passed away Friday, May 6. This last year, my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Her condition seemed stable at the beginning of the year but the cancer quickly developed in the last two months and took over. I initially deferred this exam in order to help my family look after her as she was still at home. Close family members came from out of town to say their goodbyes. We were not sure how much longer she had so I wanted to be there with her until the end. My mother passed away when I was 8 years old, so my grandmother has been my mother figure my whole life. As you can imagine, it was quite difficult to focus on school matters while my grandmother was dying. My grades towards the end of this last semester suffered as a result. I was unable to give my studies the focus and attention that I normally do. I emailed my professor about the situation and he advised me to file this appeal. My family and I are currently sitting shiva for my deceased grandmother, which is a tradition in Judaism where we host any family or friends who wish to come and mourn. The point of this time is to focus on the departed loved one and not ourselves. My mind is currently only on my grandmother and I find myself unable to do anything else. It is for these extenuating circumstances beyond my control that I believe I am not in a good position to write the ENGL 100 final exam.
Thank you very much for your time,
Aden Deitcher
