Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

I am writing this letter to appeal dropping Psychology 100 (Fall 2015) and to have English 100 and Sociology 120 (Fall 2015) receive credit standing.

During my first year at Queen¿¿s, this past academic year, I struggled in managing a chronic illness due to the adjustment of living on my own and away from home. I live with Type 1 diabetes, and when it is not well managed, I have a hard time focusing and completing assignments in a sufficient enough way for me to succeed. In addition to having Diabetes, my immune system and overall general health suffered, which resulted in me being ill with colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia, on multiple occasions this past year. I tried my best to keep up with my school work, but at the same time I was trying to stay healthy and recover from my recurring sicknesses.

My request is that my Psychology 100 mark be dropped, and that my English 100 and Sociology 120 receive credit standing.

My plan going on in the future is to if possible, only take 4 courses in the Fall 2017 semester, allowing myself to once again try adjusting to living on my own, while learning to balance managing my illness with my academics. I feel that if I have a lighter course load, I will have more time that I can dedicate to working on maintaining my health, as well as I will have extra time in case I run into a situation beyond my control, I will have more time to be prepared to deal with it.

This past year has not been an accurate representation of my academic capabilities, and I know that once my health is taken care of, I will be able to achieve the proper grades required to do well at Queen¿¿s.

I have included a note from my physician doctor who follows my health, as well as I have mailed in my health records from all my visits to the Student Wellness Services on campus for the past year. If needed, I will also be able to provide records from my visits to the emergency room, as well as my other various doctor¿¿s appointments throughout the year.

Thank you,

Sage Mills
