Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing to appeal my academic withdrawal from Queen¿¿s University. I had anticipated the receipt of a letter informing me of my withdrawal, but I was still upset when I received it. I would like to urge you to reinstate me for next year.
I am in a similar situation to last year when I appealed my academic withdrawal for the 2015-2016 school year. I achieved even more success this past year in comparison to my third year at Queen¿¿s, as I achieved a G.P.A. of 1.84 this past year compared to the G.P.A of 1.63 I achieved in my third year. Even with this success, my second year haunts me as I had described in my previous appeal letter last year. My grandfather passed away in a tragic car accident late November of 2013, as it was nearing exams for first semester. This event affected me greatly as I had to go back home to Richmond Hill immediately for the funeral proceedings missing the final weeks of class. As explained in my previous letter, I was extremely saddened at his untimely passing and was unable to focus on my upcoming exams. I knew I had done poorly after writing my exams, but once I received my marks, it only became worse in second semester as I was on a downward spiral because I felt like I was unable to do well anymore. Only when the school year was done I was able to pick myself back up as I no longer had the stress of a full course load.
Now I am in a position where I can almost graduate as I have been trending upwards in my academic success as displayed by my past year. This is due to following the Academic Plan I crafted for my appeal last year. I focused more on Mathematics courses this past year, resulting in my first A- in a course in my university career. I also have been in contact with my professors, exchanging emails so I can keep track of my knowledge in the course. I also took an 80 course load of only 24 credits this past year instead of the full 30 credits. I will admit I did not speak with a Learning Strategist, but that is because I felt as though speaking with my professors led to more specific advice.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I have a specific Academic Plan going forward as I want to graduate in 2017. I have spoken with an Academic Advisor in Arts and Science to formulate this plan. I am currently taking ENGL 100 and CISC 102 this summer. I currently need an average of B- on those two courses to raise my G.P.A to 1.6. At the time of this appeal, I am on track in those courses to achieve this. If my appeal is approved, I plan on enrolling as a part-time student and retaking the courses I have previously failed in an attempt to further raise my G.P.A above 1.6. I want to retake the courses I failed, Anatomy 215, Physiology 214, and Math 281 because I know I can pass them the second time I take them, raising my G.P.A to be well over 1.6. I have passed all of the courses I have taken a second time when I failed in my first attempt. I also took Anatomy 215 and Physiology 214 in my second year, the year in which my grandfather passed away affecting my grades in those courses. I am confident I would do better in the courses the second time around. If I am able to repeat my failed courses, I will only need an average of D+ in the five courses I would be taking, including the two I am currently taking this summer. I am confident in my ability to achieve this goal as I have achieved a higher average of 1.84 this past school year. With my G.P.A over 1.6, I plan on graduating in 2017. I currently have a cumulative G.P.A of 1.520, meaning I am only 0.08 away from a 1.6 and I am confident in achieving this if I am able to retake the 12.0 credits I have failed as passing those courses would raise my G.P.A substantially allowing me to graduate.
I wish to stay at Queen¿¿s next year and graduate. Please understand that my second year was an outlier and my third and fourth year at Queen¿¿s has proven it. I hope you give me a chance to finish my academic career at Queen¿¿s University. Thank you for considering this appeal.
