Petition Letter: Hello,

My name is Arjun Jindal, I am a fourth year psychology student at Queen¿¿s University. Due to medical circumstances, I am appealing for aegrotat standing for the following courses from the 2016 winter semester:

PSYC334 (with Dr. Bernard Kavanagh)
CLST201 (with Dr. Ronald Holden)

I do not wish to make an appeal for my other course, PSYC501 (Honours Thesis), as my supervisor (Dr. Holden) and the Psychology Department have agreed to let me continue my thesis during the 2016 summer/fall semesters.

During March 2016, I suffered my second concussion in the past year as well as a traumatic brain injury in a car accident. The injury prevented me from reading, writing, concentrating, and engaging in other cognitively demanding activities, preventing me from completing my coursework. My doctor wrote a letter documenting this (attached) and advised I focus on recovery for 2-3 months. He has continued to monitor my progress.

Initially I appealed for and was granted a request to drop PSYC334 and CLST201. However, Professor Kavanagh recently contacted me as he noticed I did not complete CLST201 despite completing 60 of the coursework with a 100 grade. He was concerned as he was aware of my past concussions and urged me to seek out aegrotat standing (something of which I had never heard) when my health improved. My previous appeal was graciously removed and I was approved to appeal for aegrotat standing.

For both PSYC334 and CLST201, I completed 60+ of the coursework with high grades. Professors Kavanagh and Holden both assured me they would support an appeal for aegrotat standing, so I feel my chances of approval are promising.

I have previously recovered from a concussion and gone on to success in my classes, so I am confident I will be able to return to Queen¿¿s University this fall. I am recovering well and have resumed several activities. Aegrotat standing would significantly improve my likelihood of success in returning to Queen¿¿s as I would not feel pressured to take a full course load immediately to ensure timely graduation in spring 2017.
