Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,
This appeal letter is requesting the ability to drop the BIOL 330 course after the drop date deadline.
Having just returned to studies this summer, I was thrilled to continue once more. Unfortunately, I had some difficulties occur starting in May. If you look back through my history, you'd find that I had previously stopped my semester due to the tragic death of my father. Since this time, I have had issues of anxiety and depression. I have had these issues stable, however, starting this semester, they've resurfaced and have affected my academic performance. Another family member has become ill and I've been assisting in the care daily. This has added to my stress, giving me little time for the BIOL 330 course.
I've tried allotting time each day for work, but am exhausted by the end of the day with these family issues. My husband and sisters are helping with the caregiver role, however, we all cannot seem to get our schedule adjusted.
In the beginning of the semester, I seemed to have everything under control, however with very little sleep. My marks in the course were good and I was exhausted. Coming to the midterm, I did not have enough time to study. I just received my mark back yesterday and unfortunately, it shows that I had no time for studying.
I understand that I missed the deadline, and that you do not usually make exceptions for students. I just know that I will not have enough time in the next month to fully commit to the course and receive the grade I am capable of.
