Petition Letter

Petition Letter: This appeal request is to waive the 21 day deadline. There are many factors that lead to me not being mental able to check my Queen's email and receive the email detailing my standing at Queen's. I was in a car accident, in a car that was not mine, it was actually my grandmothers and I was driving her to see a movie. To give a bit of background, my grandfather (her husband) has Alzheimer's which means she is essentially his care taker. I am very emotionally enthralled with both of them so when I had a day off of work I offered to take her to see a movie. Before seeing the movie we were in a an accident, luckily no one was seriously injured but there was notable damage to her car. This lead to me having to work twice the shifts I had been previously in order to pay for this damage that I had caused, totaling around 2,000. I also have been suffering with general anxiety and have only recently begun to seek help; this meant that I was already very nervous to check my Queen's email regularly for updates. I only checked my email to see when course selection was and of course that is when I discovered that my standing at Queen's was in jeprody. I hope it is understood that I am not asking for special consideration as I know that deadlines are something that are important and must be upheld; I am simply requesting that you hear me out as to what happened to me this year that I did so poorly this year. I feel as if this 21 day deadline should not be the key most factor in the decision to either keep me or to have me take a year away. I can guarantee that there are others in far worse situations than I am, however that isn't to say that what I had endured wasn't measurable in some way. This year I fought quite hard to stay at Queen's when it would have been easier to have just quit. This is what I am hoping to do again right now for you all reading this, fight to keep myself at this school.
