Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am asking to drop the DEVS100 summer course because my mother recently died of cancer. She was 57. I made strenuous efforts to complete my course work; however the death was sudden and traumatic for myself and two sisters. While I had hoped to remain on track with my summer studies the emotional aftermath of the death in combination with practical difficulties that have arisen since my mother's untimely death have prevented me from continuing my studies adequately. I don't have a copy of the death certificate but I will provide a link to the obituary. I also am registered with disability services and see a psychiatrist on campus if further documentation is required. I am a student in good standing and would like to take the time to grieve the loss of my mother without it negatively impacting my academic career.
