Petition Letter: Thank-you for accepting my appeal to waive the 21-day deadline. I write to you now in request to review and waive the 3 year required academic withdraw.
My personal academic performance could have been significantly more impressive this year, not attaining the success I had set as my goal is largely attributed to my personal navigation of two problems.
After having an abortion at KGH and struggling to find the support on campus I was looking for I wrote this article in The Journal this fall to impress upon other struggling young gaels they were not alone. http://www.queensjournal.ca/story/2015-11-13/editorials/support-needed-for-abortion-patients/ As I am currently not residing in Kingston I cannot attain the appropriate documentation to confirm this procedure (requests not permitted via phone), I will file this supporting documentation at the earliest opportunity but did not want to delay this letter any longer. Navigating the social and mental health problems this procedure and experience brought into life was the single most difficult thing I have encountered. Now that I am on the reflective side of depression and this experience, is something I should have pursued formal help with while studying in the last two semesters.
Being sponsored by the Metis Nation of Ontario (Kingston Chapter) gave me the incredible opportunity of being able to attend Queen's with relief from the majority of the financial obligations faced by most students. Now that this funding has been stopped by the government and I am paying for my own living and academic expenses, I struggled to support myself while attending school. I worked two full time jobs while attending Queen's and running the photographic department in the Queen's Journal. In the future my academic will be secondary to my financial obligations, especially with my academic plan moving forward.
My relationship with my department is a huge point of pride. Being selected to perform and singing at the introduction of the SLC / Queen's Music & Digitial Media Program was a huge moment of personal success. The drama department has also formally asked to feature me on the alumni page of their website once I have officially graduated. Department Head Dr. Craig Walker is my top professional and resume reference and I look forward to continue working with him and many of my other professors in professional and creative environments. Lee Atkinson, my academic advisor and work-study boss has offered continued employment and advice to help me plan for my personal and academic future, including pursuing graduation.
I look forward to sharing this plan with you below.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Moving forward, I must complete 3 courses (for a total of 9 units) to achieve graduation. I am currently more than 90 completed a 3-year art/sci degree with a minor in drama. Due to the fact that these outstanding credits are all electives I will be taking courses I have previously failed in order to increase my GPA. I understand that I may be required to take more than 3 courses to increase my GPA to the required graduation limit, and am prepared to do so. Despite the fact that my Drama department courses have been fulfilled, I will be maintaining close check-ins and contact with my advisor Lee throughout each semester should counsel be required. I wish to only take one class at a time to ensure the greatest academic success is achieved. By concentrating my efforts on each class, I believe I will be able to eliminate the financial and personal barriers to academic success previously experienced. The academic advisor I spoke to by phone also agreed this class by class program would be best for me to set and maintain good academic precedent with each class enrolled in and completed. By maintaining a close relationship with my academic leaders and advisors and staying heavily involved in my classes, I look forward to continuing studying class by class and becoming closer to graduation with each smaller success.
