Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To The Associate Dean (Studies),
I am Maaz Ikram, a student at Queens University enrolled into the Bachelor of Science program. I am appealing to drop the course Math 121 CDS (Summer, 2014). I have recently been notified of my mark which was a failing grade for the midterm exam and a failing mark in the course giving me a course total of a mark less than 50. The time I was identified on the 27th of June, did not give me enough time to get advice from my Professor about dropping the course and then drop the course before the deadline. Upon asking my Professor, Professor Abelson about dropping the course, he recommended that I do in fact drop the course and write an appeal to Queens University to drop the course as it would be nearly impossible to achieve a grade higher than D or even pass the course. I also could not get the 50 for the appeal earlier as I do not have a credit card and had to speak to my parents about it which made me have to wait a little while longer until I could submit my appeal. Aside from being given my exam mark and final course mark late on the 27th along with advice from my Professor on dropping the course on the weekend later the 20th-30th and not getting the money for the appeal earlier, I have been having a lot of family troubles over this past year which made me take an Academic Leave of Absence for the winter term of the school year. After meeting with a counsellor they instructed me to take a leave until everything was settled down and then return. Upon returning for the completion of a possible summer course to help reduce the time wasted I mistakenly thought all my stress and problems were over which they clearly were not and due to this I was not able to fully concentrate on the summer course and now have a failing mark which I really want to get rid of until this coming year. For this coming school year I will be returning to the Bachelor of Science program but will be able to live in a house with my sister who is now a student at Queens University, and away from all family troubles. I intend on getting a GPA greater than a 3.0 in order to study in the Queens Life Science program, particularly the Cardiorespiratory Stream program and then after graduating apply for Med School. This Math mark will have a serious effect on my GPA and I would like it to be removed in order to have no problems with my GPA in the coming years. Any consideration will be greatly appreciated.
-Maaz Ikram
