Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean and Faculty administrators,

My father was assaulted at his work place on July 12, 2015. The police made the investigation on the case. The employer and the workers acted like nothing has happened, and told the police that my father was making a big deal out of a little argument, that it was my father that is causing all this unnecessary trouble. Even though a few workers did see situation, they denied and later said they did not see things clearly. So the did not press charges on the other party because no one would stand up to prove the case and video footage was unclear despite that my father got a concussion from the incident, and was also very depressed and anxious. He lost his job, and stayed home for a long time. He was extremely emotional and sensitive, so the doctor put him on antidepressants.
Our family is extremely upset that the police just closed the case like that, and no one believed my father. So we filed several appeals, and the case is still in the long appeal process. My father has a language barrier, so the legal institutions contact me for case updates and information. He felt that no one believes him, and our appeals are constantly rejected. I also feel very upset. I do not know how to help him, and nothing seems to work. The institutions kept on sending letters and contacting me regarding the case that I could not put my mind onto learning. I felt so unmotivated and did not want to do anything else and had difficulty meeting deadline. I missed a lot of classes, and as a result I had difficulty catching up. I did not want to talk to anyone about it since it is so private and acted like nothing happened. None of my friends know what happened. I missed so many things that I could not take it anymore in the end and went to talk to my professor about the matter. I know that if I did not do anything I would fail my courses and risk academic probation. Meanwhile my parents also have there own things to deal with, I do not want them to know that there daughter is also having a hard time, because they count on me to help them with many things¿ I also talked to academic advisor Cindy Butts briefly about the situation, and she advised me to send in an academic appeal.

I did not do well on MATH 121, LING 205 and PHIL 250 because of the incident. My marks slipped a lot in the end when Information and Privacy Commission of Ontario told me that they have denied our request and have moved the case onto the next level. I did not hand in the final essay in PHIL 257, and I contacted my professor at the end of the semester. Professor Kumar emailed the department head Dr. Deborah Knight and they gave me three days to complete the essay and told me if I cannot complete the essay in that time frame, they can also help me to appeal for AG. I was unable to complete the essay, and I am not sure if I can still apply to extend the IN to finish the essay.
