Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern:
I am writing to appeal to submit a late appeal for the requirement to withdraw for one year that is currently on my student account.
In regards to the circumstances, I¿¿ve not had a need to access SOLUS for most of the summer, only recently having to access it to register for the fall term and to check the balance I owed for my Winter 2016 term to submit a repayment plan. Upon logging into my account, I was shocked to see that I had the requirement. After checking my Queen¿¿s email consistently over the course of the summer, I¿¿ve not seen any e-mails regarding any requirement to withdraw, even after checking my entire inbox and clutter folders. I¿¿ve drafted a letter explaining the circumstances around my performance over the past two years, and I¿¿ve scheduled an appointment with an academic advisor to draft an academic plan to submit alongside said letter. Had I known or had been informed about this requirement, I would have definitely submitted an appeal as soon as it appeared on my account. Upon writing this letter, the only time I¿¿d seen my requirement to withdraw mentioned in a Queen¿¿s e-mail is the response to the APA I¿¿d submitted on August 16th 2016 to repay my Winter 2016 fees.
When course selection began, a close friend of mine had been diagnosed with depression and made a number of attempts on her own life within the last few weeks, shortly after returning to Scotland to stay with her parents. She made five attempts, and I managed to stop the first four attempts by talking her out of them, and I¿¿ve tried to get in contact with her parents for the past weeks to no avail. The fifth attempt hospitalized her for half a day, but she finally received the help and the support that she needed. I was the only person who knew about her attempts, and spent hours out of four different days over three weeks trying to convince her to continue living. This placed tremendous stress and pressure upon me, as I felt there was nothing I could do, seeing as I was the only one who knew she wanted to commit suicide and was unable to physically be there to put a stop to it. I was unable to cope with such a situation, and I felt lost and hopeless as to what to do to help. I felt obligated to find some way to convince her to seek assistance, and ensure she felt that she had the support she needed. This situation took most of my time and energy between August 20th 2016 to September 7th 2016.
I absolutely need, and want, to continue courses for the next school year (Fall 2016/Winter 2017) and would gladly take any chance to appeal that requirement, no matter how close we currently are to the Fall 2016 term. I will even be willing to give up the Fall 2016 term, and continue in Winter 2017.
Before submitting this letter, I¿¿ve checked my inbox and clutter for an email regarding the requirement, and did not find it in either, but I found it in my junk folder on August 25th 2016. I do hope that I will be allowed the chance to make a late appeal on this requirement, and will make every effort to ensure that I will not have to appeal it again.
