Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing this letter in order to rectify some of the failures that occurred for me during my third year of study. During this year, and for about a two year span in total, my longtime girlfriend was experiencing severe depression. I was frequently having to leave kingston for weeks at a time in order to spend time with her and aid her in overcoming her mental illness. There were multiple times during this two year period, especially during my third year of study (fall 2014-winter 2015) that she attempted to take her life through the ingestion of large number of various medications. I was not able to attend many of my classes and did my absolute best in order to try and keep up with my course-load and managed to pass a number of courses during that time. This also caused me to have a stress induced motility disorder affecting my eating habits. This motility disorder causes the lower half of your esophagus to become sporadically inactive making it very difficult to eat. I have never failed a course before that time and have not failed one since. My girlfriend is doing much better and has returned to her studies and I am now able to focus all of my own energy on my studies, knowing she is doing much better. The reason that I have not appealed sooner was my lack of knowledge in the process. I honestly did not realize that this service was available until i attended a meeting with Julie French this morning. I have aspirations of attending a masters program in Pharmacology and with these failures on my transcript i will not have the opportunity to be accepted. If i was given the chance to provide all of my documentation of her medications prescribed and her medical records she is willing to release this information. Thank you so much for reading my appeal and i hope i get to meet you in order to plead my case and continue my academic goals. I will provide documentation of my train travel to show that i was no able to be in kingston for long periods of time during those two semesters.
