Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

A severe mental health issue affected me during my last academic year. From the start of third year it was alright, and I got myself into a lot of commitment during the year thinking I can handle all the pressure. I worked in residence and also worked in the student council for the whole year, and on top of that I selected two fourth year courses in the winter term. I travelled to a foreign country during my Christmas break of 2015 by myself and upon coming back I was having a hard time adjusting to school and what happened during the trip had an effect on my mental stability. I postponed my Comm 211 exam after my trip because of the time conflict but didn¿¿t end up doing well in it because I was overwhelmed by the amount of work awaiting for the new term and was troubled with mental issues. I have visited three mental health professionals on different time throughout the year, but my problem didn¿¿t get much better. During the final exam week, I missed three exams for health problems and I have obtained a doctor¿¿s note and a note from student health center, but the prof won¿¿t let me take the exam late. During the summer, I returned back home to recover from my depression and talked to the associate deans of study and she advised my to write an academic appeal letter to drop those courses late. I am appealing now because I was back home in summer and couldn¿¿t get a long term mental health reports from the student wellness center when I was in another country-they require a visit. I am felling much better this year and have decreased my workload to balance my life more. My grades will increase quite a bit after the courses are dropped/credits standing and I am trying to graduate this year in the summer with a better grades overall. Thank you so much for your time reading this and all the supportive document will be provided after I got it this week.

Sincerely,
Xiwen (Sylvia) Zhang
