Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am currently appealing the request to withdraw for a minimum of three years. To date, I have taken a leave of absence totaling 20 months and would love to return to studies by Winter 2017.

Two years prior, when I had received a request to withdraw from studies, I accepted the decision as a viable outcome for my actions. My opinion was that I would not be returning to my studies at Queens, and that I might find a different path towards my career goals. I had not pinpointed what had led my schooling to be so unsuccessful in the first place.
Over the past two years I have been able to gain experience and maturity working in Manhattan alongside inspiring individuals. I currently work for lululemon and directly manage a team of sixty employees. I have become responsible for gathering product design feedback, generating allocation reports, and conducting strategic sales to generate our growing men¿¿s business. It has been through leading others, and supporting my team to achieve measurable goals that I have realised that I must lead by example and do the same for myself. My ten-year goal is to become the Executive Vice President of Brand and Community. This is a goal that I am on track to achieving, however it has become blatantly apparent that I must achieve a BA and MBA in order to do so. When composing my future academic plan, I came to the realization that I would be able to allocate more time to my studies if I was able to begin courses in Winter of 2017 as opposed to Winter 2018. Additionally, I will be able to better contribute to my corporation and achieve greater success upon completing my degree (something that I am eager to do). What I have now that I didn¿¿t have two year¿¿s prior is a drive for success. I have a clear direction of my goals, and I have learned how to develop the strategies to achieve them. I have learned to cope and manage my depression, and have ceased relationships with individuals that detracted me from achieving my goals. My support system currently includes by partner of five years, a Queens Alum that graduated second in his class from Queens Commerce, and my colleagues who are eager to support my return to studies.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Amanda Bates
