Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to appeal to the Faculty of Arts and Science to request an extension of incomplete course, ECON322 in 2016 that was taken in 2016. Before I specify my letter in detail, I pledge my word that I state the appeal letter with honesty and I appreciate your time.
Back in 2016 March, my medical status had gone severely at most, and Dr. Banic,at CDK health clinic had suggested me to go back to my home country to continue medical treatment. Since I believed it seems a little inefficient and ineffective to get medical treatment here, I have approached each professor via email if they could allow me to write the final exam outside of Canada. The decision was passed to Ian Keay, the undergraduate chair of the economics department and it was denied eventually.
I ended up missing all the final examinations and after submitting relevant documentation in detail, the department said they will grant me make-up final exams for ECON240, ECON360, and ECON322. I have only received an email from the professor of ECON240, saying that I will have to contact him at the end of August or early September for a make-up examination. ECON322 was administered on OnQ, I saw a message showing that ¿¿oral exam will be taken in September¿ with no date shown. Besides, I have not received any email privately from the professor. I assumed that these were successfully deferred and went back to my home country to continue my medical treatment.
Despite my medical documentation states that I am strongly encouraged to have a break till the end of Augst, I was very busy in summer since I still had to manage to study for the deferred exams and I was on medical treatment in South Korea. In the meantime, I also took 9 units distance education courses, but I believe that I was in much better condition than what I was like in March and April. I came back to Canada in the middle of July, but I had to travel back and forth in Kingston and Toronto due to the problems with my study permit problem.
I have successfully completed the summer courses in early August and I have made an appointment with Sue Blake with regard to my academic concerns. I was aided by her advice that the exams will need to be written prior to September 15th since the IN grade will be converted from IN to F status if not written, and it is my responsibility to contact professor or department for exams. I was also aware of undergraduate chair¿¿s message that the deferred exams must be written prior to September 15.
When I checked on OnQ, the course managing program for ECON322 was no longer available and I emailed him to confirm whether the type of exam will be oral exam as previously indicated in OnQ and to arrange the date for the oral exam on September 9th. I was planning to email to other professors to arrange for make-up examinations too. After an hour, I received a message from the undergraduate chair, saying that I have missed an opportunity to write the supplementary exam, which I was never informed from the start date to the end date. I have attached all the emails with regard to the issue.
Besides that, on behalf of other professor¿¿s approval, I have finished the rest of exams, but it still seems that ECON240 has not been graded yet, as it is still shown as F although I strongly feel confident that I have passed the course. My academic plan for this year is to satisfy all the academic requirements for my program by immersing myself in the final year of study. I feel very desperate that I want to leave here at the end of this year. Given the assumption that my letter is granted, I am curious what other options I could have.
I appreciate your consideration and am looking forward to hearing back from your decision.
