Petition Letter

Petition Letter: As I have stated in my earlier appeal, during my third year of study I was going through issues dealing with my girlfriends depression during that time. This constituted the fall 2014 and the winter 2015 semesters. During this time period I was spending a significant amount of time with my girlfriend, and missing classes to ensure that she become healthy and providing support in her time of need. Luckily she is in much better health now. As a successful student throughout high school and my first two years of study I thought that I could work through the adversity. However, after several escalations in my girlfriends situation I started to experience flare ups of my previously diagnosed esophageal motility disorder, which becomes much worse when stress is present. This meant that I had several factors, including not being in Kingston for long periods of time as well as not being able to eat properly due to my condition, that were against my success in my academics. I am not the type to give up, and even though that I had failed two of my five courses in the fall i jumped right back in and took five courses again in the winter. This proved to be a mistake and I failed 3 more courses, meaning 5 courses in total. I have since taken some of those courses again and done much better. I have future plans of doing a masters in biostatistics, and have worked extremely hard to get through my issues and manage stress, and it can be seen that my grades have improved. Having these courses dropped will greatly help me in my pursuit of further education and will heal the final remnants of that challenging time in my life. I hope that I can continue to represent Queen's University well. I have a letter from my family physician, Dr. David Yip, regarding the history of my stomach issues and explaining my referral to the specialist Dr. Tripath coming by fax to the Arts and Science office. Thank you for understanding my struggles and helping me a great deal.
