Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing requesting an appeal to drop PSYC 342 - Psychology of Social Influence in the fall semester of 2016.
Due to the course structure we did not receive our midterm marks until November 6. My performance on the midterm was much lower than I had initially expected. After reviewing my midterm and talking with the course TA and instructor, there is no extra opportunity for me to improve my mark. Due to the high weighting of the midterm (40) and the only other assessment being a 60 final exam I will not have enough opportunity to improve my grade enough so that it does not negatively affect my GPA. I am currently applying for graduate programs and I am worried this will jeopardize my chances of being accepted. After speaking with the instructer we agreed this would be my next best course of action.
In future I will be sure to try and pick courses that I feel more prepared for and that have an assessment plan that fits my learning style. I will also investigate more closely the professors and be sure they are ones that lecture in a way that is more directed towards how they test their students. These strategies will help ensure future academic success by putting myself in courses that fit my learning style and interests.
