Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Throughout the course of this semester, I have been struggling with what I have come to conclude is mental exhaustion. The symptoms I have been experiencing are:
1. Constant tiredness - I always have the feeling of sleepiness regardless of how much I sleep. I have been sleeping over 8 hours everyday this semester and have great difficulty getting up in the mornings, even if I sleep for more than 12 hours.
2. Inability to concentrate on work - it is very difficult to motivate myself to do an assignment. Every time I succeed in doing so, I cannot stay focused for longer than an hour without becoming extremely drowsy and sleepy.
3. Difficulty with memorization - I have been having very difficult time memorizing anything, and recalling things that were simple for me to recall before, including people's names, formulas and words.
This is a completely unusual situation for me as it has never happened to this degree that I could not overcome it. I am used to doing well, which made it much more difficult for me. It has happened before last year, but not so acutely and I managed to pull through. I was hoping I'd be able to do the same this year, but I overestimated myself. This weekend, I decided to finally confide about this with my father. He was very supportive and understanding of this and we conjured up a plan to deal with it:
1. Drop any course this semester that I would be unable to pull through with a mark that is not going to be an outlier in my current transcript. We concluded it may be due to stress and overexertion, and this will act to reduce stress and give me a chance to 'take it easy' for a bit. None of the courses I am taking this semester are prerequisites to my degree.
2. Focus on completing my degree. This means next semester I will drop all courses not prerequisite to my degree. This will result in only 2 courses.
3. Take a mini-vacation during the winter break to take my mind off stress.
I know I do not have any supporting documentation (from professional health care) as my first step towards solving the problem started only this weekend. It is not a situation I am familiar with and it is a big shock to myself. I am glad I at least talked with my father and to have had his support. Having at least some kind of solution to something that felt unsolvable a week ago already feels like a breath of fresh air. I hope to find your understanding and that this appeal can be approved.
