Queen¿¿s Appeal Letter
I am requesting to drop ANAT 315 past the course past the academic deadline.
There are several reasons for this request:
1. I have recently had an educational assessment and received the results this week.
2. The results of this assessment have new recommendations for my accommodations.
3. I am still waiting for my appointment with Accessibility Services to review this.
4. I met with my Academic Advisor Anna Van der Meulen, and she has recommend that I drop this course.
5. I am changing the direction of my degree.
As part of my academic plan, I reduced my course load this year so I could focus on 4 courses instead of 5. After receiving two bad marks in October, I started to see a new psychologist for an educational assessment. I was putting in a lot of time and effort to prepare for tests and exams but my results did not reflect that effort. The anxiety escalated during midterms especially for the Anatomy Bell Ringer exam.
Now I have the results from the educational assessment (see enclosed document), and met with my Advisor. Together we strategized the best way for me to achieve academic success in school now, next term, and in the following years. I am only appealing to drop this course because I am not doing well and because I am no longer required to take it since I am changing the direction of my degree. I am hopeful that my appeal will be granted so I can enroll in a different anatomy course (ANAT 100). We have also changed some of my electives outside my program of study (please see enclosed letter of support from my academic advisor).
I also have an appointment with the Student Wellness Centre to meet with someone to help reduce my anxiety and stress. I will be continuing to see this counselor through my Christmas exams. Starting in January, I will be engaging in off-campus therapy for specific Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the Limestone Clinic. This therapy should give me the tools and strategies to reduce my anxiety during tests and exams.
The educational assessment has given me clarity regarding my cognitive and academic abilities. It has also pinpointed my anxiety as the main contributing factor inhibiting my test performance.
Dropping ANAT 315 will give me more time to focus my studies on my remaining courses and help alleviate some of the stress associated with this course.
