Petition Letter: To Whom This May Concern,
I am writing my appeal letter here today to get the courses that I have taken during the summer of 2016 off my transcript and dropped. This includes BIOL102, PHGY170, and WRIT120 all taken through the Online Distance Studies.
Just before the summer of 2016 began I was to be married. Just a month before my wedding my fiancé left me after finding someone else and left me devastated. To ensure that he did not get caught in what he had done he blamed the entire breakup on me with many reasons except for the truth. This left me in a position of confusion and a lot of distress. I had already signed up for courses at Queens and in an effort to keep my find off the unusual and horrifying circumstances I tried to pour myself into school.
I did not realize what cancelling an entire wedding that I had planned for 2 years would be like and the stress that came onto my life. I had to not only deal with my own emotions but those of family members and had to deal with a situation that not many women encounter. So it was difficult for me to seek help and understand what was going on.
In efforts to keep a balance and some sort of norm I tried to continue school. I was not judging what I could handle at that time very well and in result I didn't even complete my courses. I didn't even get a chance to try at these courses, as I didn't even hand in any work. I tried to focus and get down to my courses but it was very late in the semester and as a result I failed every course.
For me school is important and I want to get my degree with the marks that I deserve. These were not marks granted by effort by rather by a circumstance that I did not have control over. This personal problem consumed so much of my time and energy that it made it impossible for my to continue with school. I realize now that it was a huge mistake to rush into school then and I would like to have these marks dropped.
I have since worked hard in my courses at Queens and I intend to start full time in May, but I cannot with these 3 courses weighing me down. Getting my BA is a priority for me as I intend to pursue psychological research in child development, and I do not want anything to come in my way.
After taking the summer to deal with the circumstance I feel much better after seeking help and have begun full swing into courses in September of 2016. I'm doing well and will continue to excel in my courses.
I appreciate your consideration of my case, and hope to hear from you soon.
Yours,
Nadina Mahadeo
