Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Studies),

I am filing for an AG appeal, as due to illness I was not able to write my Fall 2016 exams for Devs 340 and Port 103. I have completed all other classes for the fall semester, and have completed 60 percent of the course work for both Port 103 and Devs 340. After speaking with an academic advisor, I have decided an AG appeal is best for my academic course.
I first showed symptoms of my illness in early October when my whole body started to swell, adding twenty pounds in water weight. This was right around the time of midterms which made my studies difficult as I made frequent trips to emerge at Kingston General Hospital and spent many hours waiting for test results. After two weeks of this, doctors then referred me to General Internal Medicine at Hotel Dieu. Around this time was when I started to experience a lot of pain along with the symptoms of swelling. I was no longer able to walk without pain, and had trouble doing things such as getting out of bed, typing, and writing in class. I also started to loose full mobility in my hands and could no longer hold things properly or open things such as water bottles. At General Internal Medicine I started to undergo testing to find out exactly what was causing these symptoms. Eventually, after two months, the doctors came to the conclusion that it was a form of arthritis and referred me to a rheumatologist. The frequent doctors appointments and pain made focusing on my studies very difficult.
On December 15th , just before my exams, I had my appointment with the rheumatologist, who was shocked at the severity of my symptoms and diagnosed me with Rheumatoid arthritis. He then started me on immediate treatment and medication, which I am happy to say has eased some of my symptoms, though due to testing that required me to go to my hometown and pain in my hands, he recommended I not write my exams. I will now be going back to see him on January 16th, which is when he has said I will start my full treatment in order to hopefully gain full mobility and settle all symptoms by spring so that it is no longer an issue. Attached to this letter below, there is two supporting letters that I copy and pasted from my professors. I was unsure how to attach them, as they were received by emails.

My name is Ant¿nio Macedo and I am the instructor of PORT 103 (Beginning Portuguese and Culture I) at Queen¿¿s University.
Chelsea Gravel is a student who was enrolled in my Fall 2016 class. She participated in the class activities and had very high attendance (1 absence). She handed in all of her work on time.
She had a passing mark of 53/70 (75 ) going into the Final Exam, which was worth the remaining 30 of the final mark.
