Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (studies),

I am appealing to add MUSC266, Queen's Jazz Ensemble, a 2016/17 full year course, past the enrollment date.
In July of 2016 I requested an academic advisory report from Solus to make sure I was going to enroll in the correct courses in order to graduate. I saw that in the report it stated I only needed 16.50 units to graduate, which was incredibly exciting. What I did not realize however was that my academic report was including MUSC 454, a course I was pre-enrolled into and therefore I counted this as one of the classes towards the 16.50 units. So instead of being 4.50 units beyond my requirement to graduate I am short 1.50 units of the requirement.
The reason I wish specifically to add MUSC266 late is because I have already been committed to and participating fully in the Jazz Ensemble, only in a not for credit capacity. Therefore, I have not missed any of the material from the fall term and I have already attended 50 of the course and completed the same work as the other students in the ensemble to date. I am concerned that if I were to simply add a one-term course at 3.0 units to fulfill this requirement that I would struggle to achieve grades high enough to receive entry and funding for graduate school. Additionally, I now hold a part time job at the Donald Gordon Conference Center and feel that if I to add another class into my timetable this would contest against my academic achievement. Being enrolled into MUSC266 would mean that I could graduate without adding another academic commitment to my timetable as I had already anticipated my participation in the Queen's Jazz Ensemble in the 2016/17-year.
I have consulted the Instructor of MUSC266 and the Chair of Undergraduate Studies for Music regarding this subject and they both support my request. I will be attaching the documentation that supports this claim as well as the academic advisement report that I requested in July.

Thank you,

Nicolas Pacheco
