Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Kiri-Christina Hauck and I am in the Bachelor of Music program. I am writing to appeal out of the Performance program of music (MUSC220/225) and add the standard Applied lesson course instead (MUSC 221). During my audition I was selected to take a second audition for the Performance program, which is an optional/extra credit course. The difference between these two courses is that the Performance aspect is more demanding in the amount of preparation needed to manage not only a Jury, but also a Recital Performance put together by the student themselves at the end of the school year being thirty minutes in lengths worth of repertoire. Lessons for the Performance aspect are one and a half hours in length on a weekly basis. The Applied music program only has a one hour lesson on a weekly basis and I would only be required to prepare a twenty minute set repertoire for a Jury (Exam) at the end of the year. The reason I am asking to appeal out of the Performance aspect is because I was in a motor vehicle accident almost two years ago and have been attending Physiotherapy twice a week since then. Unfortunately I am unable to practice the appropriate amount of time to prepare the amount of work required for MUSC 220/225 which would impact my Performances and my grades. Before applying to Queens University I was not in demand to practice my instrument, but ever since I have been, I am required to use my upper body muscles more intensely than ever and it is now impacting my whip lash and micro-teared muscles and I just cannot bear to continue practicing to the demand of this particular program. I am enjoying the lessons and it is required for me to continue being involved with them in order to graduate but one hour lessons and less repertoire to practice would be more ideal for me at this time. I am hoping to drop MUSC220/225 and add MUSC 221 with your permission. Please find attached the supported letters from both my Academic Advisor and Physiotherapist.
