Petition Letter
Petition Letter: My name if John Costello and I am a second year philosophy student.
I require accommodations to complete and excel at my studies. To this end I have been assessed, approved and qualify for accommodations for both classroom and exams. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I require accommodations I have experienced great difficulty in organizing myself due to personal struggles during the first term of my second year here at Queen's. It heavily effected my day to day life and it severely hindered my ability to complete my work
Over the summer of 2016 I attended counselling and thought that I had developed strategies to assist with my studies. However, during my first term of my second year (fall 2016) my mental health struggles that I had battled in my first year at Queen¿¿s returned. While I continue to struggle I am confident in my ability to rise to the challenge of university and to take myself to task over my own mental health.
During my first term of my second year, I did not have access to my necessary accommodations, something that I have now worked to get back on track, have set straight and now work through.
However, I was not at my best for any of my courses for the fall of 2016 and I stumbled and fell during the year and particularly at due dates. However, at this time only PHIL 204 was effected in a final manner for which I require assistance. I have reached out to my other professors, attended counselling and obtained assistance to set up my accommodations for my courses since and it has greatly improved things for me here for myself and my ability to complete work and improve upon my lacluster first semester.
My mistake was not seeking help for myself when things began to go downhill, because I thought this time I could handle it without assistance. I was wrong and this isn¿¿t a learning experience I will take lightly. I very much hope you consider my request to to a CR mark for PHIL 204.
Sincerely,
John W.W. Costello
