Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Samantha Mazza (10059452), and I am in my fifth year studying environmental studies and political science (ENVS-POLS medials). During my second year at Queen¿¿s, I was diagnosed suddenly with epilepsy resulting in amnesia and much cognitive delay. Unfortunately, these symptoms and seizures have returned, and has had significant effects on my ability to study.

Right now, I am registered in 3 courses; POLS 434, POLS 470, and GPHY 247. I am taking GPHY 247 as my STAT alternative, but am finding the content quite similar. I have attempted STAT 263 twice, and find this geography course to hold the same topics, giving me much anxiety about completing the course and graduating on time (Spring 2017). After meeting with different representatives from student wellness services, we have attributed some of the reoccurring symptoms as part of the stress of my academics. With this being said, I followed up with Dr. Nelson, the GPHY 247 professor, Dr. Goebel, the environmental studies and science undergraduate chair, and student services to help accommodate this course with my health condition. After many discussions and investigations into my course history, Dr. Goebel is able to use one of my geology courses (GEOL 200) as a replacement for my STAT requirement, and so I am appealing to drop GPHY 247.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Samantha
