Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am a first year and I wish to drop CISC 121 past the drop deadline. It was a mistake on my part to not drop the course sooner, but it had not occurred to me that dropping was an option that I could consider nor even that a deadline had passed. I have been struggling very much with the course and when I got an extremely poor midterm mark I stressed more about if I could salvage the course than that I should just withdraw from it.

Overall, I have had a lot of anxieties over the course and it has been making it a struggle to properly focus on my other courses. I had been very upset over the course and assignments and felt I just couldn't do them. I thought that it was an important class for me considering I had thought I wanted to major in a related subject and it was a core course for the major path, but I have since realized that it is not for me and I need to find something different. Having the fail on my transcript could limit my options in what I can do next. Worrying about the course is hurting me and I need to be able to concentrate on the rest of my courses and my plan for next year.
I very much regret not knowing to drop the course sooner and misleading myself into thinking that I would be able to do it.
