Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Reisha Filbey and I am currently in first year. I am writing you today to request an appeal, understanding it is past the drop date. I was very confident I would excel in the class however over the past month and a half my mental state is quite unwell; with daily anxiety and panic attacks frequently with hyperventilation close to the point of passing out. I have depression and acute anxiety and have recently relapsed into a more detrimental state than average. Unaware that there would be a fair amount of math in the course, I had severe difficulties grasping the concepts even after doing practice and attending lecture. In 2016, I completed a psychological assessment here at Queens where they diagnosed me with the acute anxiety and depression. It was also noted that my mathematical skills were below average, and I was preforming mathematics at a grade 6-7 level. My prof, as does my counsellor and accessibility advisor all seem it beneficial to withdraw from the course and they all suggested I write this appeal to you today.
