Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: My father passed away on March 7th, 2017. I was absent from classes for seven days to attend his funeral in Vancouver. I have missed a midterm in MATH 281, a midterm in CHEM 282, and a quiz in CISC 124 as a result of this absence. I was also unable to submit 2 assignments for MATH 281, and an online assignment for CHEM 282.

I have spoken to my professors regarding my absence. They all have been very accommodating and transferred the percentage grade from missed coursework to the grading of my final exams.

I made an appointment with an academic adviser. Kathryn Morrissey told me that I could speak to my professor about extending deadlines/examination dates or request an incomplete grading for this semester.

Personal counselling has not relieved me of my sadness and distress.

Lingering grief and stress has made concentrating in class, studying missed/current material, and completing current coursework difficult for me. Being away from my family during this time has left me with crippling homesickness. I need time to be with my immediate family.
