Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean,
My name is Elizabeth Ivanoff, and I am submitting this appeal so that I can drop the courses GEOL 106-001 and CSLT 103-001. I have been struggling severely this past semester with my mental health, I was diagnosed with clinical depression, which was brought on by the stress of dealing with problems at home, and this has made it very difficult for me to sleep at night, and to motivate myself to both attend class and do the readings outside of class time. My lack of knowledge of mental health and how to deal with it lead me to ignore the problem for an extended period of time and put of getting help until the situation reached a low point. This change in my mental health made it impossible for me to balance taking care of my well being and do well in all of my courses, and I was unable to keep up with these two. I have gotten to a point where it is not possible for me to catch up. I began seeing a counsellor (Nadia Sawya-Fehr) about two months ago when I realized I couldn't work around this problem, and have since seen an academic advisor (Meg Hall) and Dr. Stephanie Butt who put me on a medication that will hopefully improve the situation. I plan on continuing counselling, I have been seeing Chuck Vetere, and hopefully switching from BMus into BA next year, and taking an extra year in order to lighten my course load in the future. I hope that the problems I have been dealing with this year don't need to have a permanent effect on my academic future here at Queens.
Elizabeth Ivanoff (20017046)
