Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop the courses GPHY 228, GPHY 240, GPHY 247 and GPHY 250. The extenuating circumstances, beyond my control, that are causing me to request this appeal is psychological challenge. As per my supporting documentation from my treating physician, I have been struggling significantly with mental health issues affecting my ability to concentrate, memorize and simply process material presented in class. This psychological challenge has prevented me from attending classes, keeping up with course work, interacting with peers and professors, and reaching for help from academic and student support programs.
While my schooling is a priority for me, I feel it is in my best interest at this pint in time to focus on my own wellbeing. My current plan to to deal with my current circumstance is to drop my courses listed above and to retake them in the fall semester. My current state of health is hopefully temporary. Over the next few months I will put maximum effort into reaching full health, using medication and a proactive healthy lifestyle. In the new semester (fall 2017) I will follow up with student services and keep an ongoing relationship. Weekly counselling services and continuation of prescribed medication accompanied with an active healthy lifestyle will hopefully aid in my mental health problems. I have also recently learned about the peer tutoring program at queens and will be use this to help with courses that come most difficulty and that cause the most strain on my mental health. I plan on retaking the courses from my winter semester when they are next available.
