I am seeking an appeal to drop my STAT 263 course and receive Aegrotat Standing (AG) on COMM 212. I am currently experiencing psychosis and suicidal ideation which has affected my ability to study and concentrate. I need to work on my health and my family doctor has recommended that I drop my courses and possibly seek treatment in hospital, where I will not be able to study for my exams. Statistics has been tough and I have not been able to study the materials. I am several weeks behind and what I have studied, I have not fully grasped. As a result, I had failed my midterm and since then the situation has not improved and I continue to be behind and unable to work. I am confident that I will not be able to grasp the material sufficiently enough in time for this month¿¿s exam. I had a similar situation with my Religion course, whose material I was not able to sufficiently study for, as I experience disturbing and unpleasant thoughts, along with hallucinations and obsessive-compulsive rituals throughout my day, which makes studying difficult and proper memorization of the material impossible. I dropped the course because I realised I would not be able to attain such a course-load and that by dropping this course, I would have more time to study for Statistics and Accounting. Unfortunately, even the extra time is not enough. I can dedicate an entire day to studying and only manage to complete a few pages of reading or a couple practice problems. In addition, the suicidal ideations have become more serious and I must spend this month focusing on my health and safety. I have continuously fallen behind more and more, and there is not enough time between now and the exams to catch up in statistics, especially at my speed. Regarding accounting, I am requesting Aegrotat Standing as I have completed sixty percent of the course. Although I have received good marks in the quizzes they were solely due to the fact that the quizzes were open booked and untimed. I have been able to complete the quizzes and assignments but they take an absorbent amount of time. This is why I am not requesting AG for my gender studies class. This course relies only on open-book quizzes and writing assignments. The quizzes like accounting do not test comprehensive but completion of respective readings and I have sufficient time to find the answer and deal with any intrusive thoughts, in addition the quiz length is half an hour which is manageable. The writing assignments, although difficult are still achievable unlike tests. This is because I have unlimited time and can do small chunks at a time. This is another reason why I am behind in my statistics studying, because I have to spend an unusually long time on my gender studies and accounting assignments. Since there is no exam, but rather a final essay, I have been able to dedicate a large amount of time to completing a half-decent essay whose grade will likely be low, as my mind is not fully intact and able.I do have a greater grasp on accounting because of the assignments, but the assignments are practice problems, where I have unlimited time and resources to aid in my studies. I can spend a large amount of time and take time off, if the thoughts become too intrusive. Relearning and studying the entire coursework given my condition is unachievable in the time left, especially since my doctor has recommended that I spend this month working on my mental health situation as opposed to studying for exams. I have a learnt a great deal in Accounting through the readings, quizzes and assignments but am unable at this time to dedicate resources towards a final exam. The situation with my mental health is becoming too overbearing and I am not able to spend sufficient time on my coursework. While I have learnt a lot in Accounting, I would not be able to do the exam because I do not believe I will be able to dedicate these next few weeks to studying namely because I need physiological help at this time, and I must dedicate my time and resources towards solving my mental health issues. I will not be able to study for or pass either my STAT 263 or COMM 212 exams and so am requesting a late drop and Aegrotat Standing respectively, so that I can instead focus on my mental health and safety. The issue is not only that I will be unable to dedicate enough time to study or that I cannot sit in one place for three hours without intrusive and dangerous thoughts, but also that I must seek medical help and focus on my mental stability and staying alive.
