Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Studies):

I am appealing for an Aegrotat standing in an online course, HIST280. Due to an amalgamation of extenuating circumstances - a decline in the health of my mother, being a full-time student, serving 25+ hours a week to fund my tuition and living expenses, having a learning disability, and completing my honours thesis - I have recently become clinically depressed. As a result of severe depression, I have been unable to maintain my academic performance or commitments. I have the support of my family doctor, Dr. Mckeown, and will be starting medication and counselling as treatment (medical note to follow upon my return to Toronto).

Understanding the extent of my situation, I reached out to Professor Sonia Dussault to discuss how to successfully complete HIST280. In our conversations, she communicated that due to my strong performance in the coursework, she would support an Aegrotat standing as I am in no condition to write the final exam on April 24th, 2017. It is the only exam I have scheduled this semester.

My academic career at Queen's has been very good. On June 6th, 2017, I am graduating with a major in Psychology, a minor in Gender Studies, and hopefully, with distinction. I hope that my past academic performance, contributions to the Queen's student body, and QSAS accommodations, help illustrate that the current state of my health has hindered my completion of HIST280. I have given everything I have to the past academic year, and it is important that I focus on recovery to prevent the situation from becoming worse.
