Petition Letter: Dr. Johanne Bénard
Associate Dean (Studies)

April 25, 2017
Dear Dr. Bénard,
This letter serves to appeal for a late drop for PSYC 100-Principles of Psychology, a course I am currently enrolled in.
During my second semester at Queen¿¿s University, I experienced a worsening of my depression and anxiety. This caused difficulty for me when trying to attend my labs. The worsening in my mental health also caused influx of psychosomatic migraines in addition to my already prevalent migraine disability. All these conditions made it excessively difficult to attend the weekly learning labs.
I had made a tremendous effort in attending the weekly labs. Unfortunately, I miscalculated the number of learning labs I had missed. I had believed I was within the allotted number of missed labs. Would I have realized this problem earlier, I would have made an effort to rectify it to the best of my abilities.
I am currently enrolled in the online Psychology 100 course for the summer session which will allow me to achieve the grade that I know I am capable of. The summer course offers alternatives to the in person learning labs which was my main difficulty during the school year. By doing the online course I will still be able to get the credit, while receiving help at home from my social worker and other specialists to improve my overall mental health.
Receiving this late drop would be very beneficial to my future academics and I appreciate the consideration.
Thank you in advance,
Ariana Kuperman
