Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to add STAT 263 (Summer, 2017) after the summer course registration deadline in order to take the course again, and improve my final grade and overall GPA.
I was initially unsure that I would be financially able to take summer courses, but finally decided to take two courses on the last day of registration, one of which I am currently enrolled in. Unfortunately, at the time, STAT 263 was already full, so I was unable to register for it. Space in the course has since then been made available, so I was hoping to be able to enroll in it now, if possible.
The reason I have decided to retake STAT 263 is because I did very poorly in it throughout the winter semester (and, in retrospect, should have dropped it earlier on). My initial performance was a result of not having properly managed my time and not gaining a deep enough understanding of the material. I was also unhappy with my current academic plan, so this contributed to my serious lack of motivation.
I feel, however, very confident that I can substantially improve my final grade with proper time management and help from a friend who has a graduate degree in statistics. Additionally, in the long run, I am thinking of switching to a program that is less mathematics intensive and has an emphasis on writing and critical thinking, as this is the area where I perform best.
Thank you for taking the time to review my request.
Sincerely,
Darina Merkulova.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Dear Dr. Bénard,
If my appeal is granted, I will take the time to lay out a thorough schedule that will enable me to achieve my desired performance in my summer courses. Further, since my current course load will be substantially lighter compared to my fall and winter semesters, I will have more time and opportunity to concentrate on the courses individually. Moreover, by seeking the help of a friend who has a graduate degree in statistics, I will be able to better grasp the material presented in STAT 263, and perform well in quizzes and examinations.
These are the steps I intend to take to ensure my success in the course and improve my overall GPA.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Darina Merkulova.
