Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop Math 221 and Geo 106 (Fall, 2016)
Math 281, Stat 268/269 (Winter, 2017)
The reason why I am writing this letter is that I was facing psychological challenge last term. I took 4 courses last term but things were not going so well since I wasn¿¿t really a math student for the first year. At the beginning of the semester, I felt it was difficult for me to take care of all these 3 math courses. As the result, I was overwhelmed at the middle of the term. I thought I did a pretty good review for the mid-term exam. However, the result wasn¿¿t something that I expected. I felt that my work was a waste of time. In the meanwhile, my grandpa passed away but I could not go back to China for the funeral because of my study After that, the depression became one the of the major problem till the end of fall term. The result of the exam made me to think if I should hold on to math. Since I left so many things behind, I did not have enough time or patience to catch up. One of the side effects was not attending to the lectures or doing any homework. All I wanted to do was staying in my room and playing video games. I was stuck in that mood for about one and half month. At the end of the semester, I checked the course syllabus, I did not have enough homework or midterm mark to pass the course, then I gave up the review for these courses. At the beginning of this term, I went to academic advising service to discuss about the current situation. Then I booked an appointment for the counselling service to find a way to get rid of the depression from last term.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: For the future plan. I am appealing to drop these two courses late and retake Math 221 for next semester. For Geo 106, I am going to take some summer courses to make sure that I may graduate within 4 years because I don¿¿t like geology. For Stat 268/268 and Math 281, I am thinking about re-taking them for the next term. I think personal adjustment is more important. In order to get overwhelmed, a specific plan is required. I am going to plan everyday carefully for example, mid-term exam next week, review the first 3 lectures on Saturday and the next 3 lecture on Sunday. If I did not a satisfying result in the exam or homework, I plan to get back the paper and work them all again, if I still did not get the correct answer, I should email the prof. or ask my friends. I should do every homework, this may help to catch up with the course and I can talk with my friends to get to know some good study method. Also, to get rid of the depression from last term. I plan to do some workout 3 or 4 times a week, go to library everyday instead of stay at home, quit playing video games. Hopefully these can help, if not, I will consult with academic adviser again or counselling service. In short, a good plan is really important for me to achieve academic success.
