Petition Letter: Dear Queen¿¿s University¿¿s Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to add and begin Law 201-700 (Summer 2017), necessary to pursue the Certificate in Law.
As an undergraduate student currently on internship in Ottawa, I am writing to you to ask for an exception to join Professor Maur¿¿s online class. The subject material is a passion of mine, and I believe it is the foundation to continuing an education in Law post-undergrad. Upon completing a Mohawk language class, many First Nations history courses, and learning more about my Métis background, I have realized I would like to help First Nation communities in Canada.
Queen¿¿s coat of arms motto, ¿¿Sapienta et Doctrina Stabilitas (Wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times)¿ is the basis on which I aspire to use my knowledge in History, Indigenous studies, and Law for the benefit of others. I would cherish the opportunity to work towards making a meaningful impact, such as in the case of Daniels v. Canada, that achieved ¿¿social justice for Métis and non-status Indigenous People of Canada¿(Congress of Aboriginal Peoples). The Introduction to Canadian Law class will provide me with the knowledge and tools needed to understand the complex rules and regulations within Canadian Laws.
The past few weeks I have been distracted as a result of identity theft, which has ultimately taken my focus away from course registration. I was focused on my bank cards and accounts, SIN, to name a few. I emailed Professor Maur Friday, May 12th explaining my interest in taking her online course but that I had missed the enrolment deadline. She replied saying, Try contacting the registrar's office, and tell them that I agree that you can enrol, as long as it is OK with them. I was directed to complete and submit an appeal. These circumstances will have no effect on the course and my work once enrolled.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I have created an academic plan to ensure that I get caught up on everything I have missed, in the event that my appeal is granted.
My evenings and weekends are free to complete my course studies. I have already begun to review the material, from the course textbook and complete research online as a baseline. I am committed to my studies, and I know this course is no different from others I have taken in class during the regular school term.
I have organized a checklist with all the assignments and will fill in each due date to ensure everything is handed in on-time. I will practice a strong work ethic, and take breaks if needed. If I have questions, I will not hesitate to reach out to my peers or my professor. I have reached out to peers who have created a study group and will be an active member in helping others if they have questions throughout the summer term.
I look forward to the challenges and new information I will learn in the weeks to come in Professor Maur's Introduction to Canadian Law class.
